POLL SHOWS 91% WANT ASDA IN AMESBURY:
NEW INDEPENDENT POLL CONFIRMS MASSIVE LOCAL SUPPORT
An independent Populus poll of Amesbury residents has confirmed the huge local support for a new ASDA store at Solstice Park. 1,000 local residents were surveyed between the 29th January and 4th February, with 91% backing ASDA's proposals for a new store in Amesbury. Furthermore, 92% of those polled believed Solstice Park to be a good location for a supermarket.
Populus- the official pollster of the Times Newspaper- asked a series of questions of Amesbury residents to gather their attitudes towards supermarkets and the possibility of an ASDA store in Amesbury.
Other questions included in the poll found that 90% of residents in Amesbury would like a greater choice of supermarket shopping and that 88% believe price to be an important factor in where they choose to shop.
The proposed ASDA store at Solstice Park has also the support of local businesses - both the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce and the Stonehenge Traders have backed the plans. ASDA has received over a 1,000 feedback forms from local residents. 98% of these forms expressed support for the proposed store.
Tom McGarry, ASDA spokesperson said:
"We have been overwhelmed by the level of public support for our plans from both residents and the business community"
"The feedback from our public consultation was fantastic but for an independent poll to show 91% in favour for our proposals is a remarkable result. It is absolutely clear that Amesbury wants ASDA."
"The polling also shows that residents want value for money from their supermarket. We are the best value supermarket in the UK, having won the Grocer 33, the industry benchmark assessing the lowest priced supermarkets for 10 years in a row."
